Along with fiber, legumes also contain protein which is important for normal bowel movements. And when you include beans or legumes to your diet (constipation or otherwise), you ensure that your bones become strong, have healthy blood flow, and the immune system is strong and healthy. So what foods come under beans or legumes? Eat soybeans, adzuki beans, pinto beans, green beans, garbanzo beans, kidney beans, navy beans, and canella beans.
The food that we eat is broken down into smaller particles with the help of wave-like muscle contractions that push food particles further down from the esophagus to the stomach. This process helps in churning food into a liquid mixture called chyme. As chyme moves back and forth in the small intestine, nutrients are extracted and assimilated into the bloodstream. The wave-like contractions in the large intestine facilitate the absorption of water into the bloodstream, and the waste that is left behind after the absorption of chyme and extraction of water, is excreted out of the body in the form of stool. Stool is the principle waste product of digestion.
Before you reach for stool softeners as a home remedy for treating constipation, there are some lifestyle changes, which you may want to incorporate in your lifestyle, so that you do not suffer from the condition. It is often seen that people who suffer from constipation do not consume sufficient quantities of water. Drinking plenty of fluids proves helpful in treating the condition. Fruit juices can also be included in the diet. Juices like prune juices are very effective in treating constipation.
